So I can't believe the sem. is already beginning! I just had my first day of classes, and it was enjoyable yet very overwhelming ;)
By popular requests, I have been thinking about formatting things to be more convenient for people. I think that since things are so busy, and there are some times when there's a little extra time to read, and some days that are tough keeping up, it would be good to do a week at a glance. So, I'll go ahead and post stuff for the rest of this week, and then every Sunday I'll update the week at a glance. Thanks to those who've given me feedback, and enjoy the week!

Justice
Wow so I just read this note today on Exodus and it seems so applicable:
"There are probably no more biblically familiar words than "thou shalt not."...Many of these (laws mentioned to the Israeli people) are surprisingly applicable across time and culture. The poor still struggle for justice in our criminal system. The immigrant struggles in our midst more than ever...Such obedience will show the character of Israel's God."

Heart
I pray that our hearts may never be hardened. I read about "heart" in Exodus, and the Wesley Bible defines it as our spiritual center. I believe that God allows us to make decisions on whether or not we will follow Him. Although God hardens Pharoah's heart, there are many times when Pharoah hardens his own heart.
Living with a hardened heart is such a scary thing. Thinking of this as a spiritual center, a "hardened heart" means a hardened spirit; no matter what happens (or what "signs" Pharoah was shown in his case), you aren't moved by it. Pharoah's own first born died, yet his heart was still hardened.
Our spiritual heart must never be hardened, must remain open, yet at the same time guarded. Although it may seem impossible to do all three, it is possible by giving our hearts to God. I was reading a book by Sam Wells that "Not wanting to do the wrong thing in the wrong place at the wrong time in the wrong way for wrong reasons holds many--perhaps most--people from doing anything at all." I believe that when our hearts are centered on God, we can truly understand His will. When we make mistakes, hopefully our relationship with God is strengthened. I heard this amazing song on the radio the other day...

So beginning in Matthew 9:37 it strikes me how He says, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few." This really convicts me when I think about the concept of suffering or inconveniencing myself for others. When do we/how often do we inconvenience ourselves for the sake of others? We live in an individualistic culture that teaches us to put ourselves before others. We must undo this mindset we have learned, and work together.
Another thing that stuck out to me was seeing Christs' true love for us re-emphasized. In Matthew 10:29-31 the imagery and truth re-emphasize how important we are to God. The Son of God is so powerful yet approachable. He is the only one who can truly give us "rest." We are valuable to Him--He created us in "the image of God." This allows us to relate to God and the world He created. We are so blessed and have always been loved and valued. With so much given to us, how can we not be but thankful? I think that we should carry the fact with us that we are valued by One so powerful; we must treat ourselves like we are of value. This means having self-respect and confidence; knowing who you are and whose you are. As children of God, he wants the very best for us.

Day 16 :)
I hope everyone is doing well! I am feeling a little under the weather, so I just wanted to go ahead and post tomorrows readings in case I don't wake up early...
morning verse: Matthew 11
evening verse: Genesis 39, 40
Don't feel bad if you get behind...just keep reading what you can; as long as your getting something from it, then all is good. Enjoy ;)

So today while reading Genesis, it was really interesting to think about Rebekah, even though she may not have been the main character in the story. God had told her before her children were even born that Jacob would rule over Esau. Yet, Rebekah lacked patience, and took matters into her own hands. God still delivered what He said would happen, but I think it's important to think about how vital patience is, and how important it is to wait for God's perfect timing. Patience is something we work on until we die; we learn about patience in some areas of our lives, but we realize through life experiences where patience is still lacking.
